Bridge Building!

Bridges come in so many different shapes, sizes and functions. There are old stone bridges that have stood the test of time, and there are steel bridges that are feats of engineering skill. But bridges, whatever their individual purpose all share one thing in common… they provide access to the other side.

The Lord Jesus Christ gives us access to the other side, by saying that if we live and believe in Him, we shall never die. In fact, the moment we believe we have passed from death to life. Jesus is the crossover point for us all. He is the way; He is the bridge.

But there is a sense in which we need to keep our relationship with Jesus in good condition. I’m reminded of the Sydney Harbour Bridge which requires constant painting to protect the steel work… once painted they start over.

Remember those early days of our Christian life when there was that special time of getting to know Jesus. We learnt about remaining in him and discovering again and again that abiding principle where we belong to him and he belongs to us.

The priority is to stay close to Jesus. It’s like keeping a bridge in good condition… we could call it spiritual maintenance. As we daily focus on the Lord our spiritual bridge will stay strong.
