How big is your God?

We live in a world where everyone is striving to set new records… be it wanting to climb mountains or simply wanting to be the best in the world… to be a high achiever!

Deep down, we all want to be winners, and come out on top. For instance, we love our team and emotionally feel disappointment when they fail to get over the line. But when they win, we get this feeling of euphoria as the adrenalin of victory takes over.

So, the quest goes on… as people want to be the best in different fields of endeavour. We get excited as someone becomes the first to do the seemingly impossible… be it climbing Mt. Everest or that person who sails a yacht single handed around the world. We all want the buzz of individual greatness.

We can find ourselves living the thrill of other people’s success… a sort of vicarious sharing which makes up for the emptiness in our own lives. But God wants everyone to be a mighty hero!

It is at this point of seeing and adulating the success of others that we should re focus on God’s plan for us individually. Consider again that word vicarious… which comes from the Latin meaning substitute. We know that Jesus vicariously suffered on our behalf… yes for our sin but Jesus suffered for the consequence of our sin too, that is our separation from God’s love. His RICH blessings are restored in Christ who gives ABUNDANT LIFE.

God wants us to leave the concept of failure, defeat and mediocrity behind and focus on personal success and the ability to be a high achiever in Christ!

God wants us to see ourselves bigger than our problems, our sickness, our failures, our fears… to have faith in a big God!
