I think of a water fall as a type of eternity… watching the water cascading down without ceasing and the sound that never stops. It’s as though it will go on forever and one feels lost in the moment with a desire to keep looking.

We can think of the Niagara Falls which virtually never stop, or the rhythms of the oceans sending wave after wave crashing or lapping on the shorelines of the world. Then we ponder the eternity of space and time and we wonder?

But then, quietly yet powerfully, we hear a man say… “before Abraham was born, I am!” (John 8:58). The Bible is abundantly clear that Jesus lived in eternity, yet do we fully understand?

As we reflect on our Christian lives… past, present and future we feel our humanness, our mortality. We seem locked into our existence, be it family, careers and the simple enjoyments of life. We live for the now, even our Christian experiences seem locked in a time capsule of the present.

This is normal, to live our lives being loved by God; enjoying the grace of Christ and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. But then we hear those eternal words again… “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” (Rev. 22:13).

Consider three disciples who had an experience which changed their perspective of Jesus… they got a glimpse of his eternity!

It was Peter, James and John who got a glimpse of the Eternal Son when Jesus was transfigured before them… his face began to shine like the sun, his clothing became white as light and then God told them it was his Son, (Matt. 17:1-2).

May we see the Lord Jesus, as he really is… the Son of God from eternity. Great things are possible as we put our faith in him!
