Ladder Success!

Sometimes, life is all about ladders; we start at the bottom rung and climb to the top… and then we enjoy sweet success!

Do you have a local football/sports ground where there are those tall light towers for night training? Well, it reminds me of an oval in a country town where we lived in South Australia. A powerful light globe at the top of one of the towers had blown and needed replacing. The town electrician came with a rather large extension ladder. Casually, he placed the ladder against the pole and extended it to reach the lighting bracket. I then expected him to cautiously ascend the ladder, but he literally ‘ran’ up the ladder with no hesitation!

This incident seemed to contradict everything I knew about ladder climbing and safety. Yet this person was no novice, but a serious, careful and methodical person. Tradies are highly skilled in their professions and seem to ignore apparent dangers.

Of course, they are not being careless because it is their training and skill enabling them to perform tasks quickly and efficiently.

Successful ladder climbing in life is no different… it requires diligent study and thorough training in the particular area we have chosen. The reward is to discover skill and confidence to perform. It also opens up new opportunities in our lives.

The Christian life has that extra ingredient of faith in God. He will be with us from the first step to the last ensuring our success!

God wants us to be successful, to become professional and skilful in the trade, activity or profession we have chosen. The result is to enter into a dimension where we discover new levels of confidence enabling us to perform well.

The principle of asking God for wisdom like King Solomon holds true today. He did not ask for wealth, long life or even the death of his enemies. He was conscious of his need of wisdom to govern with confidence and skill… he asked and received!
