Let’s think about Passports for a moment… primarily they identify us and our nationality. They enable us to leave our own country and visit other places around the world.,
But obtaining a passport is not that simple… it requires proof of who we are by the supply of certified birth information and signed photographs. The Application must also be accepted by the relevant Department before the Passport is issued.
There are similarities here when we think about having Eternal Life and Heaven. It is a destination, where spiritual ‘passport’ credentials are essential… there are no shortcuts!
The Bible tells us that God has a Book of Life in which the names of people are recorded. It is then a reasonable question to ask… what credentials do we need to have our name in this book?
The answer is simple… just believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus guarantees our legal entry into heaven because he bore our sin, justifying us before God.
It was at the Last Supper that Jesus reminded his disciples that they needed to eat the bread which was his body and drink the cup which was his blood. He was of course referring to his coming death on the cross where he would die and shed his life blood for the forgiveness of sins to give us eternal life.
Of course, we understand that physical bread and wine do nothing, for it is a spiritual transformation that takes place in our hearts. As we receive the Lord Jesus, he cleanses us from sin!
