One of the most precious verses in the Bible is 1 John 3:1 which reminds us of God’s incredible love in calling us His children! That one word, ‘children’… is so powerful, for it is a belonging word!

To be God’s children is to belong to Him as our Heavenly Father. But belonging is more than simply acknowledging God which can just be a vertical relationship… God’s wants to be close to us!

What God has brought about in making us HIS CHILDREN, is a horizontal relationship. God wants fellowship, not a mechanical, impersonal connection. He wants to be a Father BESIDE US!!

Jesus wanted above all else, that his disciples might grasp the fact that his God and Father was their Father too! To be a child of God is not some vague title we carry with no significance. No, it is reality based on the fact that our faith in Jesus has literally made us God’s children… his sons and daughters.

When Jesus spoke to Mary of Magdala after his resurrection he asked her to tell his brothers, ‘I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God’ (John 20:17). God so wants us to grasp these words and their reality!

We could liken it to a family house where we have our own room. But we are part of God’s family, and it is our FATHER’S HOUSE!
