The “WAY”

This photo reminds me so much of those beach tracks which lead down to ocean beaches. Quite often the water is hidden from view until the path takes you over a rise and then the majestic ocean and shoreline comes into view.

There is something magical about pathways as they guide us to special locations. The most important pathway of course is the one we can follow with Jesus who is the Way, (John 14:6).

It is interesting that the early believers in Christ were not called Christians… that name came later. They saw themselves as followers of the Way, it was a new way of living in Christ

So, these first believers distinguished themselves as belonging to this new movement called the Way. Paul, after his conversion said he was himself, a personal follower of the Way, (Acts 24:14).

A “way” in the days of the early church referred not just to a road but also could mean the journey and even a way of living. These first believers had discovered a new WAY in the Lord Jesus.

We are followers of the Way too, as we live our lives in Christ. The Lord Jesus truly is the “Way” in every sense of the word.
